Distributing & Combining Like Terms • Distribute first • Then combine like terms Example 1: 3(x + 5) - 8 Get rid of any zero pairs. Count up what you have left and that will be your answer! Group 2 Answer: 3x + 7 Group 1 Group 3
Example 2 2(3x + 2) + 2x Group 1 Group 2 Get rid of any zero pairs. Then count up what you have left. What you have left will be your answer. Answer: 8x + 4
Example 3 2(x – 4) + -3x + 5 Group 1 Group 2 Cross of zero pairs. Answer: -x - 3
