Catherine of Aragon was Henry’s first wife. Henry wanted to marry her because he thought she could give him a male heir to the throne. Catherine was born in Spain. When there was war in Spain she had to move to England. She married Henry on June 11th 1509 at Grey Friars. Before she married Henry she married Arthur. Catherine and Henry had a daughter called Mary. However, before she had Mary she had a stillbirth son. When Henry fell in love with Anne Boleyn he divorced Catherine. Years later she died of a broken heart. Catherine of Aragon.
Anne Boleyn. • Anne Boleyn was Henry’s second wife. Before she married Henry she was lady in waiting to the Queen of France. Anne didn’t want to be Henry’s new mistress because she wanted to be Queen. She loved a man called Henry Percy before she loved Henry. When Henry found out she had refused to be his new mistress he wanted to know more about her. Although Anne wasn’t what you called a classic beauty her eyes persuaded people to do things. She was doomed for having a daughter. Her daughter was called Mary the 1st. Henry sent her to the tower because she couldn’t have a son. He also sent her to the tower because she was accused of killing her uncle with witch craft. Anne was the most infamous of Henry’s wives. Henry then had Anne Boleyn beheaded!
Jane Seymour. • Jane Seymour was Henry’s 3rd wife. She was Anne’s lady in waiting which means she was her maid. Unfortunately she suffered from dihorrea she also had a coronation (a special ceremony to celebrate her reign). Fortunately she had a son called Edward 6th. Henry was very happy until she died two weeks later. Henry dug her grave to show how much he cared for her. When she died Henry said she was his first true wife. He mourned by wearing black for 3 months and he didn’t marry for three years. Henry was buried next to Jane!
Anne of Cleves. • Anne of Cleves was Henry’s 4th wife. She was born in Germany. When she married Henry there wasn’t many women interested in Henry. She could not speak English because she was not well educated. Also she was a German princess. Henry, at one point became so upset that he accused the Dutch of bringing him a horse instead of a princess. Her marriage made a link between England and Germany. Unfortunately she was only married to Henry for six months. Henry divorced her because she looked so ugly. Anne died of illness (she died of cancer 8 weeks before her birthday)
Kathryn Howard. • Kathryn Howard was Henry’s 5th wife. Henry wanted to marry her because he thought she would be faithful to him. She was 19 years old when she married Henry who was 49 years old. Her dad was called Edmund Howard and her mum was called Joyce (Gulpeper). She was her mother’s tenth child. Henry accused her of adultery and having an affair with her cousin Gulpeper. The night before her execution she practised how to place her head on the block. Unfortunately she was beheaded 6 years after Anne Boleyn (her cousin). Kathryn was married to Henry for only 2 years!
Katherine Parr. • Katherine Parr was Henry’s 6th and final wife. Before she married Henry she married Thomas when she was 17. Five years later when she was 22 she married John Neville, third baron of Yorkshire! Henry wanted to marry her because he desired to have another son. He tried to have her sentenced to death, but it did not work. Many years later Henry died and she married Thomas Seymour (Jane Seymour’s brother.) She died of giving birth.
