O & E Activities update (cont. • USVI Outreach & Education • Don’t Stop Talking Fish Celebration June 28 • NOAA Coral Reef Conservation Program’s Reef Smart project’s 2014 Nancy Foster mapping mission outreach session in Fredericksted, St. Croix on March 24. Included activities for managers, fishers and STEM K-12 students and teachers.

  6. O & E Activities Update (cont.) • funding of the Marine Outreach and Education USVI Style (MOES-VI) approved by NOAA CRCP for fiscal year 2014. This funding will allow for the successful implementation and evaluation of the MOES-VI Increasing Fishing Community Awareness and Compliance project

  10. General Program Content Detailed explanation on the license and permit application process. Fishery statistics and data reporting. Puerto Rico Department of Agriculture’ s Bonafide Fishers Program Puerto Rico Fishery regulation – Regulation 7949.  DNER Certification of Completion

  12. A total number of 179 participants completed the course. Participants evaluated the program and rated it mostly between excellent –good. Among the recommendations provided were to offer the course more frequently and at various fish villas. Follow up meeting scheduled for the end of April with the DNER Fisheries Lab. Requests from other villas. Will continue to offer the course around the island.

  13. GMRI Marine Resource Education Program • Puerto Rico chapter • First planning committee meeting on March 14, 2014 • Steering committee meeting scheduled for May 9, 2014.
