Zeus (Zoo-se). Zeus is the leader of the gods and goddesses and also the lord of the sky and god of thunder. He is the most powerful god. After Zeus overthrew Cronus, he and his brothers drew for shares of the earth. Zeus go the best draw and was made leader of the gods and ruler of the sky.

Zeus(Zoo-se) • Zeus is the leader of the gods and goddesses and also the lord of the sky and god of thunder. • He is the most powerful god. • After Zeus overthrew Cronus, he and his brothers drew for shares of the earth. Zeus go the best draw and was made leader of the gods and ruler of the sky. • His weapon is a thunderbolt which he hurls at those who displease him. • He is also known to punish those that lie or break oaths. • His parents were the Titans, Cronus and Rhea. • He is one of the first six gods. • His brothers are Poseidon and Hades. • His sisters are Hestia, Hera, and Demeter. • He is married to Hera but is famous for his many affairs. • He has many children. • His symbols are the eagle and thunderbolt. • His Roman name is Jupiter.   2. Poseidon (Poe-sigh-done) • Poseidon is the god of the sea, horses, and earthquakes. • After Zeus overthrew Cronus, he and his brothers drew for shares of the earth. Poseidon got the second best draw and was made ruler of the sea. • His parents are the Titans, Cronus and Rhea. • He is one of the first six gods. • His brothers are Zeus and Hades. • His sisters are Hera, Demeter, and Hestia. • He was widely worshiped by sailors. • He created horses out of sea foam for Demeter. • His weapon is a trident, which can shake the earth, and shatter any object. • He is second only to Zeus in power amongst the gods. • He has a quarrelsome and greedy personality. • His symbols are the trident and the horse. • His Roman name is Neptune. Hades(Hay-dees) • Hades is the Lord of the Underworld and god of wealth because of all the precious metals that are mined in the earth.. • After Zeus overthrew Cronus, he and his brothers drew for shares of the earth. He got the worst draw. He made Lord of the Underworld and ruler of the dead. • His parents are the Titans, Cronus and Rhea. • He is one of the first six gods. • His brothers are Zeus and Poseidon. • His sisters are Hera, Demeter, and Hestia. • He is a greedy god who is greatly concerned with increasing the population of his underworld. Those who cause lots of deaths are favoured by Hades. He really likes the Ares. • He has a helmet that makes him invisible. • He does not live on Mt. Olympus and rarely leaves the underworld. • His wife is Persephone, who he kidnapped from her mother, Demeter. • His symbols are the helmet, the Cerberus, and jewels. • His Roman name is Pluto. Άδης

Hera(Hair-ah) • Hera is the goddesses of marriage and childbirth and takes special care of women. • She is Zeus’s wife. • She and Zeus have two children: Hephaestus and Ares. • Her parents are the Titans, Cronus and Rhea. • She is one of the first six gods. • Her brothers are Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades. • Her sisters are Demeter, and Hestia. • Most of her stories have to do with her jealous revenge on Zeus. • She is symbolized by the peacock and the cow. • Her Roman name is Juno. Hestia(Hez-T-ah) • Hestia is the goddess of the hearth (like a fireplace) and family. • Her parents are the Titans, Cronus and Rhea. • She is one of the first six gods. • Her brothers are Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades. • Her sisters are Demeter, and Hera. • Hestia never married and has no children. • She does not have a distinct personality and she plays no part in myths. • She does not live on Mt. Olympus but rather she lives in the hearths of the people of Greece. • She is symbolized by fire. • Her Roman name is Vesta. Άδης

  6. Demeter(De-meet-er) • Demeter is the goddess of of the harvest and fertility. She is in charge of making the crops grow each year. • Her parents are the Titans, Cronus and Rhea. • She is one of the first six gods. • Her brothers are Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades. • Her sisters are Hestia and Hera. • Hades kidnapped Demeter’s daughter, Persephone, and made her Queen of the Underworld. They worked out a deal where she can see her daughter 6 months of the year which causes the seasons to change. • She is symbolized by wheat, corn, and the scepter. • Her Roman name is Ceres. Δήμητρα

Aphrodite(Afro-die-T) • Aphrodite is the goddess of love and beauty. • She has a magical girdle that compels anyone she wishes to desire her. • She is known as the most beautiful of the goddesses. • She can get very jealous. • She is the daughter of Zeus and Dione. • She is the wife (forced) of Hephaestus. But she loves Ares. • Her son is Eros (Cupid). • She is symbolized by swans, dolphins, and doves. • Her Roman name is Venus. Aφροδίτη

Hephaestus(He-fes-tus) • Hephaestus is the god of the forge and blacksmiths. • He makes the weapons and armour for the gods. • He completes spends most of his time inside a volcano. • Hephaestus is the son of Zeus and Hera. • He is the only god who is not beautiful and he has weak legs. • Zeus was angry with Hephaestus and threw him off Mt. Olympus, into the sea, breaking his legs. • Zeus made Aphrodite marry Hephaestus. • He is kind and peace loving. • He is symbolized by the axe and the anvil. • His Roman name is Vulcan. Ήφαιστος

Ares(Air-eeze) • Ares is the god of war. • He is the son of Zeus and Hera. • He is disliked by both parents. • He is considered murderous and mean. • He is Hephaestus's brother. • He is not married, but he and Aphrodite spend too much time together… • He is symbolized by the spear. • His Roman name is Mars. Apollo(ah-paul-oh) • Apollo is the god on light, music, and truth. • Apollo is the son of Zeus and Leto. • His twin sister is Artemis. • One of Apollo's more important daily tasks is to harness his chariot with four horses and drive the Sun across the sky. • He is symbolized by the lyre (like a harp) and the bow and arrow. • His Roman name is Apollo. Artemis(art-uh-mis) • Artemis is the goddess of the hunt, the moon, and children. • She is the daughter of Zeus and Leto. • Her twin brother is Apollo. • She is the hunter of the gods and like Apollo she hunts with silver arrows. • She never married and has no children. • All wild animals are sacred to her, especially the deer. • She is symbolized by the deer, moon, and bow and arrow. • Her Roman name is Diana.   12. Athena(ah-theen-ah) • Athena is the goddess wisdom, handicrafts, war, and reason. • She is the daughter of Zeus. She sprang full grown in armour from his forehead, thus has no mother. • She never married and has no children. • She is fierce and brave in battle but, did not like war. She only fought to defend Greece. She never lost a battle. • She was Zeus's favorite child and was allowed to use his weapons including his thunderbolt. • Her favorite city is Athens. • She is symbolized by the olive tree and the owl. • Her Roman name is Minerva..   13. Dionysus(Dye-ah-nye-sus) • Dionysus is the god of the wine and merriment. • He invented wine and the art of tending grapes. • He has a dual nature. On the one hand bringing joy and on the other hand he can bring brutal, unthinking, rage. • Dionysus is the son of Zeus and Semele. • He is the only god to have a mortal parent. • Hera did not like Dionysus—she was jealous. • He liked to party and ride a tiger. • He is the youngest god. • He is symbolized by grapes. • His Roman name is Bacchus. Hermes(Herm-eeze) • Hermes is known as the messenger of the gods, the god of thieves and business and sleep. • Another important job was to guide the dead to the Underworld. • Hermes is the son of Zeus and Maia. • He is the fastest of the gods. He wears winged sandals, a winged hat, and carries a magic wand. • He is in more myths than any other gods. • He liked to trick people and was very inventive. • He invented the lyre, the pipes, the musical scale, astronomy , weights and measures, boxing, and gymnastics. • He is symbolized by winged sandals, and the caduceus (a staff). • His Roman name is Mercury.
