Suresh Raina Opens Up On Rahul Dravid's Contribution to Team India Suresh Raina’sautobiography ‘Believe’ is out now where he has revealed about different aspects of his life, and also gave some insights about his cricketing days which are hard to believe. While many believed that MS Dhoni and Sourav Ganguly built the team, in the book he stated that it was none other than Rahul Dravid. “Rahul Bhai was always like family. He would keep fighting for the rights of the junior players. Those extra efforts always matter and leave an impact on people. Youngsters were very important to him. Look at the kind of players who matured under him—the ones that went on to lead India over the next decade. These included M.S. Dhoni, Irfan Pathan, Yuvraj, Piyush Chawla, Dinesh Karthik, Munaf Patel, S. Sreesanth and myself. Rahul Bhai knew that these seven or eight boys would be the face of the team in the coming years. And he made sure that we were nurtured well," he wrote in his autobiography, excerpt of which was published in The Print.

  2. He also said that the credit is usually given to Dhoni or Ganguly for making the Indian team but he never agreed with that as he believes the credit should go to Dravid. He also stated that he never said Dada made this team. He believes that both Ganguly and Dhoni, did lead and make an impact on the team but Rahul Dravid is the man who made the teams for all three formats as well. Raina also revealed how Rahul Dravid would often fight with selectors for the young talent in the Indian team. And also gave them advice to play Ranji Trophy whenever possible and asked them perform well as well as score heavily and then come and play for the country again. He also shared that Dravid was an extremely match-oriented player and coach and he used to play several matches for his state in the Ranji Trophy. However, Dravid is all set to travel to Sri Lanka with the Indian team now.
