  4. ! Contrast Repetition Alignment Proximity Underlying Principles of good design

  5. { Contrast. Elements that aren’t the same should be very different so that they stand out. Making them slightly different confuses the user into seeing a relation that doesn’t exist.

  6. { } Must be VERY different The idea behind contrast is to avoid elements on the page that are merely similar. If the elements [...] are not the same, then make them very different.(from Robin Williams, Non-designers Handbook)

  10. { Alignment. Nothing should be placed on a page arbitrarily. Every element should have some visual connection with another page.

  11. Alignment Nothing arbitrary. Period.

  12. ALIGNMENT Is a MUST on this busy ad!

  13. CENTER ALIGNMENT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE . . .

  14. Once again, boredom does not live here.

  15. { Repetition. Repeat visual elements of the design throughout the design. This helps to develop the organization and strengthen unity.

  16. Repetition • Repetition • Begets • Unity.

  17. More Repetition Notice Alignment also

  18. { Proximity. Elements that are related should be grouped together, whereas separate design elements should have enough space in between to communicate that they are different.

  19. Proximity About Lorem Ipsum Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularized in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why Do We Use It It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for “loremipsum” will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).. Closeness betweenheadings and content …
