  2. Crocodile's Toothache By Shel Silverstein Oh the Crocodile Went to the dentist And sat down in the chair, And the dentist said, "Now tell me, sir, Why does it hurt and where?" And the Crocodile said, "I'll tell you the truth, I have a terrible ache in my tooth," And he opened his jaws so wide, so wide, That the dentist, he climbed right inside, And the dentist laughed, "Oh, isn't this fun?" As he pulled the teeth out, one by one. And the crocodile cried, "You're hurting me so! Please put down your pliers and let me go." But the dentist just laughed with a Ho HoHo, And he said, "I still have twelve to go -- Oops, that's the wrong one I confess, But what's one crocodile tooth, more or less?" Then suddenly, the jaws went snap, And the dentist was gone, right off the map, And where he went one could only guess...... To North or South or East or West...... He left no forwarding address. But what's one Dentist more or less?

  3. Bear In ThereBy : Shel SilversteinThere's a Polar BearIn our Frigidaire--He likes it 'cause it's cold in there. With his seat in the meatAnd his face in the fishAnd his big hairy pawsIn the buttery dish,He's nibbling the noodles,He's munching the rice,He's slurping the soda,He's licking the ice.And he lets out a roarIf you open the door. And it gives me a scareTo know he's in there--That Polary BearIn our Fridgitydaire

  4. FART-ZEN By: D.M. Larson CAST OF CHARACTERS (Three or more actors, any gender)  STEPH: Stressed students (can be a man STEVE). MASTER: Fart-Zen master who teaches relaxation techniques. PUPILS: There can be one PUPIL or a dozen (very flexible).  (Lights come up on a studio that is a cross between a yoga and karate studio. PUPILS are dressed in white and are in various strange positions in a state of meditation. Each PUPIL has a small box next to them. NOTE: There can be one PUPIL or a dozen. The Fart-Zen MASTER stands before them also in a state of meditation. STEPH enters. STEPH is in her school clothes and hair in a pony tail. Everything about her screams stress and tension. She stops; worried she has interrupted them). STEPH: Oh, I'm so sorry. I didn't realize you were in the middle of a session. I'll come back. MASTER: No, please enter. All are welcome here.  STEPH: Hello, I'm Stephanie Miller. (Pulls off her backpack and shakes the hand of the MASTER) STEPH: I was referred here by my teacher. She says I've got way too much stress in my life and she prescribed some relaxation exercises. Your Fart-Zen school comes highly recommended for its success in relieving all kinds of stress, nervousness and STAAR test anxiety.

  5. (STEPH has been pacing nervously. MASTER stops her)  MASTER: It is said "far-zen".  STEPH: Oh... so sorry. T is silent. Got it. Kind of like Mozart but the opposite. He must have taken your T sound.  MASTER: Perhaps. Pupils. Assume position... Ichi. (PUPILS all shift into a similar position and all fart as they do so. NOTE: The farting will most likely will have to be done with a recording unless you have some really talented farters in the cast. STEPH looks at them in disgust but MASTER says nothing)  MASTER: So what is the source of your tension?  STEPH: Huh? Oh, the Reading STAAR Test.  MASTER: You seem distracted.  STEPH: Every since I got to 4th grade I have dreaded this STAAR Test.  MASTER: Position Ni!  (PUPILS shift again to a new position and fart more)  STEPH: Are they okay?  MASTER: They are reaching a state of advanced relaxation.

  6. 7 "You did a nice job on that still life today," said the art teacher.8     "Thank you, Miss DeAngelo," said Elise. "Would you be able to answer a question for me?"9     "I'll try," she said.10     "How did Leonardo da Vinci become such a great artist?"11     "There is no simple answer to that question," said Miss DeAngelo. "He was born with a great deal of talent, but that is not enough. He practiced his art all the time. He practiced and learned from others. He even taught himself math and Latin."12     "Why?" asked Elise curling up her lip with dislike.13     "He was also an engineer and architect. He needed math like geometry and algebra to make correct calculations."14     "I thought maybe he just practiced and used his imagination," said Elise. "I would never have thought math was that important."15     "I think you will find that da Vinci was curious about the world," said Miss DeAngelo. "That is what made him such a great artist. Who knows, perhaps someday you might draw like da Vinci."16     Elise nodded. Her mind raced ahead to her math class. Maybe if it helped her with art, she could learn to like it, too.

  7. March 21, 2011Dear Mr. Echart, I am interested in building a kite for the upcoming kite contest. My dad told me that when you were a boy, you won the very same contest. I was wondering if you could give me some ideas on how to build an award-winning kite. I would be happy to come over to your store at your convenience so that you could show me. Please let me know as soon as you can. Yours truly,Haylie

  8. Tuesday April 25, 2011Dear Diary, I had a super day. My kite that Mr. Clemens helped me to build won 1st place in the kite contest! I was afraid to ask for his help because I thought he would laugh at me. He didn’t! He actually helped me to build the kite of my dreams and we won! Our kite was great! Mr. Clemens showed me how to build one that looks like a bird. It flew perfectly, just like a real hawk! The other kids were so jealous of me because they knew that my kite was the best!
