  3. Social media – the negative aspects As with any popular medium, negative aspects can arise from its use. These can be categorised under the following headings: • Behavioural problems • Privacy issues • Defamation • Criminal use • Spread of misinformation • Inappropriate exposure

  4. Behavioural problems • Cyber-bullying • Reduction in face-to-face interactions • Addiction • Reduced levels of concentration • Disconnection • Isolation/loneliness • Promotes self-centeredness • Decrease in productivity

  5. Privacy issues • Many social media profiles do not understand/use the privacy settings • Posts and Tweets can be used as evidence • Breaking up of relationships

  6. Defamation – damage to reputation • Creating a negative image • Monitoring and screening by employers • Trolling

  7. Criminal use • Gang crimes/terrorism • Robbery • Hacking/phishing • Infringement of law
