Richard Lawrence McCarthy, known as Darby McCarthy, rose to prominence as one of Australia's top jockeys in the 1950s and 60s. He achieved a remarkable milestone by winning the 1969 AJC Derby on "Divide and Rule" and the Epsom on the same day with "Brokers Tip." His racing career took him to Europe, competing at prestigious venues like Royal Ascot and in Paris. In recognition of his contributions to the sport, he was inducted into the Queensland Racing Hall of Fame during the Industry Awards Night in Brisbane in July 2004.
