The capillary network unites to form larger vessels - that spiral around the infundibulum - within this lobe the vessels form a 2° capillary plexus that branch among the endocrine cells Production of adenohypophysis hormones is controlled by the hypothalamus Hypothalamic neurons release regulatory factors into the surrounding interstitial fluids The 1° capillary (fenestrated) plexus receives blood from the superior hypophyseal artery The Pituitary Gland and the Hypophyseal Portal System – portal vessels link 2 capillary networks to provide an efficient means of chemical communication - ensures all the blood entering the portal vessels will reach the intended target cells
