Surviving on a Deserted Island: Strategies for Your Group

After miraculously surviving a boat sinking, you and your companions find yourselves on a deserted island with limited resources. The island appears to have fresh water and some wildlife, but survival will require careful planning and teamwork. With only a few salvaged items—a pocket knife, a broken mirror, a nearly empty cigarette lighter, a torn life raft, a bent fork, and a bed sheet—you must prioritize immediate needs such as shelter, food, and signaling for rescue. Explore the island's resources and create a survival strategy with your group.

  1. Survival Discussion

  2. The Problem • You and your companions have just survived the sinking of your boat in the ocean. You have washed up on a deserted island with no way of communicating your situation to arrange a rescue. • The island is large and apparently has fresh water and some wildlife, but you will need to explore further. The jungle around the beach is thick with many vines, but it looks like some of the trees will have edible fruit. • You will likely be on the island for a long time before you are rescued. Your group will need to decide what the priorities are and how you are going to survive.

  3. Items • Your group of survivors managed to salvage the following items: • A small pocket knife • Part of a broken mirror • A cigarette lighter (not much fluid) • A torn life raft (not repairable) • A bent fork • A bed sheet
