  2. Anne’s family • Anne was born 12 June1929, she died in March 1945 aged 15 • She lived in Amsterdam with her mum(Edith), dad(Otto), her grandma and her elder sister Margot. Both girls were very clever • They were Liberal Jews and a very happy family • Otto, Anne’s dad, had a business that sold herbs, mixed spices and pickling salts used to make sausages.

  3. Anne’s diary • Anne was given a diary for her 13th birthday and she wrote about her life from 12 June 1942 to 1 August 1944 • Anne wrote all her thoughts and feelings in her precious diary • She once wrote that she ‘wanted to live forever’

  4. The Secret Annex • In May 1940 the Germans invaded Amsterdam, they began new laws to segregate the Jew’s e.g. wearing yellow stars and no going to the cinema • Anne and her family were very worried about the Germans and that they would be taken to concentration camp. • On 6 July 1942 the Frank family went into hiding in a Secret Annex above Otto’s office

  5. Living in the Secret Annex • It had 3 floors, the entrance was hidden by a bookcase • Eventually 9 people lived, in silence, and in fear that they would be caught • Anne spent her time writing in her diary with wonderful words, reading and studying

  6. Living in the Secret Annex • She made a special friend called Peter • Its amazing that they kept quiet for so long! • Anne wrote that she wanted to be a journalist and a ‘sensational actress’ • Anne thanked God for giving her a gift of being able to write • Anne hoped one day that she would ‘write something great’

  7. The end of Anne's life • The Germans came and took Anne and her family on the 3rd of September 1944 • They were taken to Auschwitz concentration camp • Anne sadly died of typhoid in March 1945, on 15 April 1945 the camp was liberated • So Anne missed being freed by 4 weeks, what a shame!

  8. Anne's diary – a legacy • After the war Otto, Anne’s Dad, returned to the Secret Annex and found Anne’s diary • He thought her words were amazing and decided to publish her diary • It was published in many language's and has sold more than 35 million copies around the world! • So Anne DID ‘write something great!’, she has left an amazing legacy

  9. What I admire about Anne, she was.. • Clever • Kind hearted • Her amazing writing in her diary • She loved science, english and maths • She loved her family • Her courage and bravery • Brilliant the way she kept quiet in the Secret Annex • Funny e.g she stuffed tissues up her bra • Honest • Very talented
