  2. Whoisthisarticleabout ? This article is about the people that were affected by the flooding from the Mohawk River. Nearly 200 people had to be rescued by the emergency workers. Many houses were evacuated in Rotterdam Junction, Schoharie, and Schenectady's stockade district.

  3. Whatisthisarticleabout? This article is mainly about the flooding that caused damage in the local areas. There were closing and evacuations caused by the Mohawk and Schoharie rivers rising at rapid speeds. In the Schoharie river the two gauges that measure water were washed up by the water and in Albany the water was four feet above the normal level. Things like this made Irene one of the biggest storms in 7o years. Whole streets were even underwater in some parts of Schenectady. Irene even closed highways and roads making travel difficult and at times impossible.

  4. When and why do theevents in theariticletake place ? • When : • The events in this article took place this past summer. Irene hit New York state on August 29 2011. • Why : • The flooding took place because of the torrential downpours that hit our state. The rain fell faster than it could drain causing the water to gather and start floods.

  5. How do theevents in thearticleoccur ? The flooding of the Schoharie and Mohawk rivers were caused by the rapid fall of rainwater collecting and washing away the riverbanks and anything in its path. The water washed away and flooded homes. This caused people to be displaced and even drown to death.

  6. Quote! “Itwillgetworsebeforeitgetsbetter.” Andrew CuomosaysaboutthedamagefromhurricaneIrene.

  7. Pictures • This is a photo of residents from Schenectady watching as the river rose • This is an aerial view of the flooding from the Schoharie river

  8. Thoughts and observations This was an interesting article that really broke down the flooding that was caused by hurricane Irene. It really shows how many people were displaced because of the storm and flooding. It helps you understand where the flooding mainly impacted.
