  2. “How To Speech” Guidelines • Speech that lasts 3-5 minutes in length • Demonstrates how to do something. • Focusing on giving directions and clear communication.

Assignment: • Audience: your class • Purpose: to demonstrate that you understand how to create, present, and demonstrate directions effectively. • You will present a live demonstration of the directions you would like us to understand. • Note cards may be used, but not read. You will turn in note cards upon completion of speech.

  4. Procedure: • Use a list of possible choices (next slide). Be sure it is approved by Mrs. Fuggiti • Think about your talents and interests. • Be sure it can be demonstrated in class. • Plan each step of the directions providing necessary background knowledge. • WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING! • Create powerpoint/posterboard with directions to use as a guide. • Organize presentation • Present directions.

Examples: How To…. • Cut hair • Do a makeover • Install carpet • Fix a leaky faucet • Change an air filter • Cook a dinner • Pitch a tent • demo a sport • Program a VCR • Install a program on a computer • Change oil • Balance checkbook • Plan a trip • Plan a party • Sew a shirt • Change a flat tire

Grading: • Topic is clearly defined (5) • Includes reasons why the reader needs the information (5) • All information is accurate (5) • Includes at least 5 informative details (10) • Material is presented in a logical order (10) • Project includes at least one accurately documented source (10) • Restates the most important point/summarizes main points (10) • Prepared on day of speech with all props (10) • Clearly practiced and rehearsed (10) • No reading of note cards, only to assist (10) • Total Project Points = 75 points

  7. Due Date! • FEBRUARY14! • All students must be ready to present on Feb.14! • You will be asked to present in no particular order • Any need items may be stored in this room. • Talk to Mrs. Fuggiti if a problem arises about needing an item, borrowing an item ect.
