  1. Public Speaking for College What you need to know.

For this class you will need the following: • 3x5 cards, you will learn how to use them • A flash drive and the ability to convert what you save, if not compatible • A folder to save handouts in and to save adjudications • Highlighters and pencils The folder and your agenda must be brought to class each day

Things you should already know for this class from other classes • How to do a proper works cited page, in MLA style • How to do proper research, using the computer and reference books in the library • How to notate on the cards information you are citing from research. This will be used in Debate and Persuasive and Informational speeches • How to do a formal outline and heading

  4. Be aware • I can only correct your outline, cards, works cited, etc. There is no time in a semester to teach you any of these things from scratch. You have been taught these skills in other classes and should know how to do them. If you haven’t you should think twice about taking this class. You should know that they are required for college and once learned should be common knowledge.

  5. ETC. • All paper work that is turned in must be typed, except notecards. • Times Roman font • Size 12 • You do not write papers in this class, you do outlines, cards, works cited and turn in your research. I do not want the colored sheets from the library. Research should be gathered neatly when turned in. • You are graded on rubrics and will be informed of the areas of grading for each speech.
