  1. 1835-1836 The Texas War for Independence By: Bailey Copelin

  2. In 1835-1836, Texas was not part of the United States yet. It still belonged to Mexico. Americans moved to Texas for farming.

  3. Mexicans became unhappy due to Americans not changing their culture to become like the Mexicans. Americans wanted Texas to become apart of the United States. Due to this conflict between Americans and Mexicans, this started a war.

  4. Mexicans also forbad slaves and Americans had brought them to Texas with them. Mexico then passed a law forbidding slaves and they must be freed when they reach 14. Any slave introduced into Mexico by purchase or trade would also be freed.

  5. Texas won the war and they thought they would become part of the United States but Andrew Jackson, the president at the time, had an equal amount of states that were pro slaves and con slaves. So Texas became its own country for about one year and it finally became part of the United States.
