  1. Benefits of Bi-directional pipe meter provers with straight calibrated section ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Appropriate deployment of a meter prover can largely aid in effective flow meter calibration. It is with the help of calibration that companies can analyze readouts from a flow meter and comprehend its accuracy. It is therefore important to understand types of prover systems. In this blog, we emphasize Bi-directional pipe provers with a straight calibrated section. But before that, let us understand what is a meter prover and the types of prover systems. Meter prover Basically, a meter prover is a piece of equipment that calibrates the readings of a flow meter. Most modern meter provers are automatic apparatus. However, they can also be manual. The function of a meter prover is to identify changes in the amount of liquid or gas flowing in the pipeline at different time periods. The sensors in the prover detect fluctuations in the flow and accurately calibrate the same readings. Types of meter prover Based on companies’ requirements such as a stand-alone or an integrated unit in a metering system, there are various types of meter provers that aid in industrial custody transfer processes. Here is a comprehensive list: 1

  2. •Uni-directional pipe prover •Bi-directional pipe prover •Mechanical displacement meter prover •Master meters •Water draw calibration tanks and verification systems •Compact piston prover Bi-directional pipe prover It is a revised sphere prover that enables the displacement ball to travel continuously. The standard setup includes a four-way valve that permits fluid flow to be reversed when the sphere reverses direction. For operating, a spherical prover ball is pushed through the proving groove by the liquid or gas entering the system. To assess the efficiency of gas/fluid flow, it is directed via a sequence of sensors and calibrated segments inside the prover system, and the number of impulses created is counted by a prover counter. It is the most widely used prover system. However, besides a normal U-type Bi- Directional Meter Prover, in which the sphere travels throughout a curved length, the sphere goes along a straight stretch of pipe, in which no extra resistance develops. As a result, this design has several benefits over the traditional U-shaped calibrated section. Benefits •Lower pressure drop over the meter prover. •The higher constant flow rate during proving with no flow variations or disruptions. •Improved repetition and complete calibration accuracy. •The internal coating on pipes has a longer service life. •Less wear and tear on the sphere. •Because the straight calibrated section is a single pipe spool with flanged connections solely at its inlet and exit, there is no need to re-calibrate the prover after delivery to the on-site. As one of the few independent system integrators, OGSI is able to include industry- leading components to assure the best performance and accuracy in the most critical aspect of the metering process i.e., proving.
