Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980, 1986, 1990 (Superfund)Operated by the EPA • The CERCLA provides a Federal "Superfund" to clean up uncontrolled or abandoned hazardous-waste sites as well as accidents, spills, and other emergency releases of pollutants and contaminants into the environment • Any amount of money can be obtained to restore an environment using the federal Superfund

  2. What CERCLA Covers • The issues affected are the pollution and degradation of the environment by discarded toxic wastes. A good example is the Berkeley Pit, an abandoned mine pit in Butte, Montana whose water is so toxic that it was actually mined for copper and 400,000 tons were produced The Berkeley Pit
