  2. What CERCLA Covers • The issues affected are the pollution and degradation of the environment by discarded toxic wastes. A good example is the Berkeley Pit, an abandoned mine pit in Butte, Montana whose water is so toxic that it was actually mined for copper and 400,000 tons were produced The Berkeley Pit
