There are (6) major elements of the creating an innovative game. These 6 elements answer questions based on the major elements of the innovative game.
Element 1: What is the Goal of the Game? What is the general objective of the game? What method(s) exist for scoring?
Element 2: What are the equipment needs of the Game? What items? How many? Any special requirements? Other materials and supplies?
Element 3: What is the necessary playing area of the Game? What facilities? Are they critical? Does selection impact the equipment to be used? Facility size and layout? Special marking and their function? Where are the goals position?
Element 4: How many participants can play the Game? Is their a minimum, maximum, or ideal #? What are the players positions and responsibilities? Do players form specific alignments? Are other people needed as scorers or referees?
Element 5: The Game itself? What are the methods of movement? Any special requirements? What rules are needed? What is required to get the game to progress smoothly? How is success or winning determined?
Element 6: Safety concerns of the Game? Are there any special safety concerns? Can the game be made safer by altering the rules, changing the equipment, the playing area? If changes are made, how will they effect the game?
Get into groups of 4 and discuss and list the 6 elements of 5 traditional games. Then create 2 hybrid games based combining or adapting those 6 elements for your game.
