  3. THE FLAG • White and red, red is for the blood spilled in search of freedom and white for the pure peace that the army of liberation was seeking after freedom was achieved. The coat of arms, which all official flags carry, has a vicuña (sort of like a llama, but smaller and with a more expensive wool than alpaca or llamas), the quinine tree (from where the cure for malaria was extracted) and the horn of plenty.

  4. Peru’s current currency is… • 1.00 PEN = 0.385655 USD that is not a lot of money for the US that is under a dollar.

  5. Ollanta Moisés Humala Tasso • “The son of IsaccHamada,mHumala entered the Peruvian army in 1982. Hummable led an unsuccessful military revolt by 39 soldiers in the southern city of tacan against President Alberto fuhilum;[2] he was pardoned by the Peruvian congress after the downfall of the Fujimori regime.”

  6. Mara Julia Mantilla • “From Trujillo in the north of Peru and crowned Miss World in 2004”.

  7. LIMA • Lima is the capital of Peru

  8. FOOTBALL • Peru’s top sport is football (soccer)

  9. Celebrations • On these days, which are dedicated to the memory of the dead, Peruvians tend to attend Mass and then in coastal communities, head to the cemetery, bringing flowers and in the highlands, food to share symbolically with the souls of the dead...

  10. Food • Nothing beats a flaky, hot, freshly baked empanada, except maybe eating the next one at room temperature, or having a cold one the next day for lunch. Empanadas are delicious no matter how you serve them, and they can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch or dinner, appetizer or snack. The key to a great empanada is to have a really delicious dough. Then you can fill it with just about anything you like. This is a traditional chicken filling, with caramelized onions, olives, and pieces of hard boiled egg. For best flavor, make the filling the day before and chill it overnight in the refrigerator.
