  3. What is the need for it? • Help students undergo a systemic self-discovery process • Clarify learning profiles • Assess higher education and experiential learning credits • Enable students to make informed choices • Increase their employability

  4. How was it created? • Original funding by FIPSE at the Department of Education • Three year development process • Partnering with experts in the field

  5. Who is involved now? • PBS team members • 6 pilot institutions • Advisory board • America’s Learning eXchange

  6. Seven Suites • User-friendly student information “brokering center” • Address needs of non-traditional students • Help learners explore academic and career options

  7. Project ACCESS Status • Building infrastructure from ACCESS to ALX • Planning an ALS Live Event • November 18, 1999 • 12:30 - 1:30 pm ET • FREE - by satellite

  8. Career Management Account • Partnership between PBS and ALX • Create a repository for lifelong learning and career planning info • Beta version available 12/99 • Expand to 10,000 users by Labor Day 2000
