  2. Lesson Objective The student will identify the parts of a common plant including
the roots, stems, leaves, and flowers, and explain the function of
each part. Subobjective 1: The student will explain the process of photosynthesis.

  3. What makes a plant unique? Click each button to see! Plants are made of many cells. Plants can make their own food. Plant cells have a cell wall. Plants reproduce by forming seeds. Plants are sedentary and usually cannot move. Plants have three basic needs to survive. sun soil water

  4. Click the link below to watch
a movie about plant parts. Plant Parts

  5. Flowering plants have four major parts Move the box down to
read about each part. leaves Leaves make all the food for the plant. They do this by changing light,
water, and gases into food. This process is called photosynthesis. They
also help a plant breathe, and give off water through transpiration. Flowers contain the male and female parts of the plants. Successful
pollination of the flower can result in the production of fruit and seeds to
create more plants. flower The stem supports the leaves and flowers. It also moves water and
food to the leaves and flowers. Stems also transport nutrients from
the roots to the rest of the plant as well as store unused food. stems Roots help keep the plant grounded in the soil or to other plants.
Roots absorb water and nutrients from the soil. roots

  6. In order to learn about each part of the plant,
let's start at the top! Use the magnifying
glass to see what a
flower is. Introducing the flower! The part of the
plant that produces
seeds and is
usually colorful. The Plant Parts We Eat - Flowers Click each box!

  7. Next, let's read about the leaves! Use the magnifying
glass to see what the
leaves are. The thin, flat and green
part that grows from the
stem and helps the
plant breathe. The Plant Parts We Eat - The Leaf Click each box! Spinach

  8. Next, let's read about the stem! Use the magnifying
glass to see what a
stem is. The main part of the
plant that supports the branches and is
above ground. The Plant Parts We Eat - The Stem Click each circle!

  9. Finaly, let's read about the roots! Use the magnifying
glass to see what the
roots are. The underground part of the
plant that absorbs food and
water from the soil and holds
the plant in place. The Plant Parts We Eat - The Roots Click each box!

  10. Click on the picture below to see
another video about plant parts! More plant parts

  11. Plants grow from seeds that germinate. What does it mean to germinate? Erase inside all of
the boxes to reveal
what's inside. The plant sprouting from
the seed. The Plant Parts We Eat - The Seeds Click hereto
hear the story of
Sid, the seed as he
germinates!

  12. Drag the plant part from the word box
over to the correct line. flower leaf stem roots

  13. Match each plant part with their function. Sort each function in the box below under the correct plant part. flower stem leaf root supports leaves
and flowers absorb water and
nutrients from the soil gives off water keep the plant
grounded stores food produce seeds to
create more plants moves water and food to
the leaves and flowers changes light, water,
and gases into food helps the plant
breathe

  14. Food for Flowering Plants Plants are unique because they make their own food through photosynthesis. What is photosynthesis? The process that the plant
uses to create its own food. Click on each red dot to learn more The leaves absorb
solar energy. the gas we breathe
in and the plants
breath out the gas we breathe
out and the plants
take in The minerals and
water from the soil get
absorbed into the
plants.
