  1. Domains and Kingdoms

  2. All living things are classified by their characteristics. Today there are three domains in the classification system Domains represent the largest difference between organisms. The three domains are: Archaea, Bacteria, and Eukarya

  3. Domain Archaea (Monera) Includes all single celled organisms known as prokaryotes. These organisms do not have a nucleus in their cells

  4. Domain Bacteria Includes all bacteria Bacteria all also prokaryotes, or single celled organisms Bacteria cells do not have a nucleus

  5. Domain Eukarya Includes all living things that are eukaryotes Eukaryotes are living things whose cells contain a nucleus All living things in this domain can be classified into one of four kingdoms: Protista, Fungi, Plantae, and Animalia

  6. Kingdom Protista Includes all single celled or simple multicellular organisms Animal like protists are known as protozoans Plant like protists are known as algae

  7. Kingdom Fungi Include all complex, multicellular living things that absorb nutrients from substances in their surroundings. Fungi do not make their own food like plants do Fungi do not eat food like animals do

  8. Kingdom Plantae Include all living things that make their own food through a process called photosynthesis.

  9. Kingdom Animalia Includes all living things that must eat other things to survive
