  1. Congruence

  2. Review • Definition: Same size and shape, and their corresponding parts have equal measures • Tick marks indicate congruent segments • Arc marks indicate congruent angles • Symbol:

  3. Prove it! • There are 5 ways to test for triangle congruency • We will learn 3 of them: • Side-Side-Side • Side-Angle-Side • Angle-Side-Angle

  4. Side-Side-Side • If all 3 corresponding sides are equal, the triangles are congruent BA ≈ ED Side AC ≈ DF Side CB ≈ FE Side ∆BAC ≈ ∆EDF by SSS

  5. Side-Angle-Side • If an angle and two adjacent sides are congruent to the corresponding angle and sides of another triangle, the triangles are congruent AC ≈ PR Side <ACB ≈ <PRQ Angle CB ≈ RQ Side ∆ACB ≈ ∆PRQ by SAS

  6. Angle-Side-Angle • If two angles and the side in between are congruent to the corresponding angles and side of another triangle, the triangles are congruent <A1 ≈ <A2 Angle AC1 ≈ AC2 Side <C1 ≈ <C2 Angle ∆ABC1 ≈ ∆ABC2 by ASA
