  1. Using your “Responding to Literature” handout, answer the following question by writing a well-developed, detailed, and carefully-written essay of 4-5 paragraphs. You do not need to use direct quotes from the text, you may paraphrase into your own words instead. In chapter 10, Miss Maudie tells Scout and Jem, “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” This motif comes up several times throughout the book and can be applied to several different situations. In a well-developed, detailed, and carefully-written essay of 4-5 paragraphs discuss how this quote could relate to THREE DIFFERENT characters. Use details from the book to explain and support your choices. A logical, well-organized essay will receive a grade of 20/20.
