  2. Located on the Australian shore • 2,800 coral reefs • Largest coral reef in the world • Over 4,000 miles long • Over 30 species of whales and dolphins • Over 1500 species of fish Facts

  3. Hard Corals no bigger than a finger nail Grows ½ inch each year Largest structure ever made by a living thing Have tentacles in order to eat Species of the coral Reef

  4. Titan Triggerfish 2.5 feet long Hunting behaviors: Squirting water Flapping fins Flip over their prey Prey on crabs and worms

  5. Stinging tentacles Safe place for anemonefish to lay eggs Feeds on plankton Gathers into a bunch at night Sea anemone

  6. Anemonefish (Nemo) -mucus on the skin to protect from tentacles-the anemone is a safe place to lay eggs-act as a guard for the anemone

  7. Overfishing • Divers squirt toxins into reef • Reef blown up to catch fish • Global Warming • Causes bleaching on reefs • Fish diversity has decreased Dangers to the Coral Reef
