Department of Fisheries Control • Overall responsibility for fisheries control in Sweden • - Responsibility to ensure: • that fishing opportunities allocated to Sweden (quotas and effort) are not over-utilized • that fishing and the fish trade accords with EC- and national regulations • that there is access to fishing information, including official fishing statistics. • the control co-operation with the Swedish Coast Guard includes a joint Fisheries Competence Centre as a Single Access Point for the fisheries industry

Main obstacles for compliance • Over capacity • Decreased profitability • Inefficient management systems – does not create enough incitement for compliance • Inefficient control regulation • Complicated rules – hard to comply to and to enforce • Lack of trust from the industry towards the regulation
