  1. Take out a piece of paper and tell me about the person who built this table. How long have they been doing woodworking? How old are they, where do they live, are they a man or a woman, what do they do for a living. Use complete sentences.

  2. The Table was made by • Katelyn Ander • Female • Cedar Ridge High School, NC • 1 high school town, probably much like Pittsburg

  3. Pittsburg High Woodshop Mr. Posner Leave your baggage at the door!

  4. Welcome • Safe / fun / educational. • This is woodshop! • Best place on campus.

  5. NO BAGGAGE • No tolerance for gang prejudice of any kind. • No bull, no swearing, no lame excuses. • Safety inside and out. • Allegiance to the shop. This isn’t English, math or science. It’s not the army, or your house. It’s woodshop! • This woodshop is a million dollar gift. • This is our shop and our opportunity!

  6. Student Conduct • Students must be on time. • Respect the teacher, each other, and the shop. • Graffiti, theft, and vandalism will not be tolerated. • Horseplay is not allowed.

  7. Shop Policy • Students must pass a written safety test and follow all safety rules. • SAFETY GLASSES must be worn on ALL LAB DAYS. • Do not wear loose clothing; it is dangerous, and can get caught in rotating machinery.

  8. Policy Continued • Please report all accidents including: cuts, scratches, and splinters to Mr. Posner. • Long hair must be tied back. Secure all jewelry. • Cell Phones / MP3 etc. NONE! Our school has a clear policy

  9. Shop Policies Continued • Immediately report any broken tools to Mr. Posner. It happens! MAN UP! • Theft of materials, other people’s projects, or shop property will not be tolerated. Whether the item is worth $2 or $200, I will deal with it as theft.

  10. Policy Continued • You need permission to enter restricted areas: wood storage, spray booth, office & tool/project rooms. • Students will not be dismissed until their clean up job is complete.

  11. Grading

  12. Grading continued

  13. Tardy Policy • First tardy - Use your "one free Tardy Slip" • Second tardy - Write, " I will not be tardy” 50 times before using any tools • Third tardy – 30 minute lunch clean up. • Fourth tardy - Parent /Teacher Conference & lunch time shop clean up.. • Fifth tardy - You bring donuts for the class & lunch clean up..

  14. Safety The woodshop can be a very dangerous place. To minimize the risk of accidents I will require all students to pass tool specific written safety tests. In addition, I will have a NO TOLERANCE policy with regard to behavior that I deem unsafe. Whether it is general horseplay, or an attitude I believe demonstrates a lack of safety awareness, I will not hesitate to pull the student out of the lab environment. Repeated or serious offenses will result in the student being removed from the class with a failing grade.

  15. Emergency Procedures Every effort is made to run a clean and safe shop. However, any shop has the potential for injury. That is why safety rules, and appropriate shop behavior is expected at all times. In the event a serious injury occurs, students should IMMEDIATELY STOP WORKING and RETURN TO THEIR SEATS while the school nurse is notified, and the nature of the injury evaluated.

  16. Homework • Go online to woodpirate.com • Print the Letter to Parent • Have them sign it. • You sign it. • Return it manana!
