  1. Great Lakes Clean-Up By Alex And Max

  2. DID YOU KNOW?

  3. People Affect The Great Lakes • People are letting garbage get into the lakes and some of them don’t care. That is how pollution happens. • People also kill the same fish all the time. When that happens you can kill the whole cycle and that will mean there will not be a lot of fish left. • When the people let the garbage get in the Great Lakes fish think it is food and they eat it or they absorb the particles in the garbage.

  4. Sulfide Mining Affecting the Lakes • A mining industry in the Upper Peninsula lets out chemicals that go through streams and river and get in the Great Lakes and could get people sick. • People work at these mines and cause Lake Superior to be most threatened lake out of all the lakes from the Sulfide Mining. • Also people could get sick by eating a fish that died from Sulfide chemicals.

  5. Boats affecting the Lakes • There is oil and gas leaking out of lots of boats. • Also 1.5 million people are on a boat in the Great Lakes a year • When oil gets on fish they can’t breath and swim and when it gets on birds they can’t fly.

  6. Asian Carp affecting the lakes The Asian Carp is a type of fish that came from Asia. The Asian Carp will eat almost every type of fish in it’s way. It has very little things that will eat them which is called there predators.

  7. Pharmaceutical Chemicals and Pesticides • Pharmaceutical chemicals are drugs that are flushed down toilets and can make fish and people ill and possibly pass away. • Sewage plants are not meant to handle these drugs. • Pesticides are chemicals to make crops grow successfully and these can kill animals and people that these animals that died from pesticides could make people badly sick too.

  8. Factories Polluting The Lakes. • Factories have a tube that let all the bad chemicals that they don’t need into the lakes. • Now factories signed a contract that they will not pollute the Great Lakes anymore. • When factories pollute the air it gets into the lakes and pollutes the lakes.

  9. Call to Action Alex- Now when you go on a boat and have a piece of garbage don’t throw it in the lake. Hold on to it. Max- Alert! Alert! Alert! The Cuyahoga river is on fire. This was all caused by garbage and paper getting into the river. Many fish are dying. Don’t Pollute!!!

  10. Glossary • Pollution- Is all things that can make something dirty. • Absorb- When soaks into you. Like a sponge • Particles- are little things that can be bad or good. • Industry- A company that sells or sponsors something. • Chemicals- Bad things that are in anything. • Sulfide Mining- A type of mining that goes into water forms. LAKES, OCEANS, PONDS. • Asian Carp- A fish that eats almost every fish in its way • Predators - A living thing that eats another animal. That is the animal it always eats.

  11. More Glossery • Cuyahoga river- A river that is in Ohio. • Pharmaceutical- A drug chemical • Pesticides- A chemical used to make crops grow well.
