  1. Do Now • Think about something you find hard to explain…. Now create a short myth to explain it.

What is a Myth??? • 1. a traditional or legendary story, usually concerning some being or hero or event, with or without a determinable basis of fact or a natural explanation, especially one that is concerned with deities or demigods and explains some practice, rite, or phenomenon of nature. • 2. stories or matter of this kind: realm of myth. • 3. any invented story, idea, or concept: His account of the event is pure myth. • 4. an imaginary or fictitious thing or person. • 5. an unproved or falsecollectivebelief that is used to justify a socialinstitution.

  4. Just like in Mesopotamia religion was meant to explain things in life that didn’t seem to have an explanation. Think Pair Share Think about the story of Athena’s birth (re-read if you have to). What might that story explain??

  5. Pop Quiz--- Again thinking about the story of Athena… why do you think the scientific name for a spider is Arachnid??????

  6. Influence on Christianity After reading the handout create a Venn Diagram for the similarities and differences of Greek Mythology and Christianity. As well as summarize them in a paragraph.

  7. Do Now • Summarize one similarity between Greek Mythology and Christianity.

  8. Daily Practice Checklist • As of right now we have completed the work for two standards: The R and the first E for these standards you should have the following work:

  9. Religion • Gods Project • Notes including answer to pop quiz question • Greek Mythology and Christianity Venn diagram Economics • Notes on Geography • How does geography influence us worksheet • Map of Europe • Spider chart

  10. When you have all of those items… You are ready to assess!!!!!!!! YAY!! Your assessment for these standards is to write a paragraph answering these questions: For R- How did Greek Mythology influence Christianity? For E- How did the geography of Greece influence the economy of the ancient Greeks.
