Symptoms of Asthma • Coughing, especially during night, or wheezing • Shortness of breath/ rapid breathing • Pale, sweaty face, blue lips • Chest tightness, pain, or pressure happening around the chest area • ALL SYMPTOMS VARY DEPENDING ON THE PERSON’S AGE AND SEVERITY
Treatments for Asthma • Medication • Steroids and other anti-inflammatory drugs, which prevents asthma attacks. • Bronchodilators This relieves the symptoms by relaxing the muscle bands that tighten around the trachea and bronchi. (less cough, wheeze, shortness of breath, chest tightness • Inhalers • The most common and effective way to use medication directly to the lungs. Two types: inhaled steroid and a long-acting bronchodilator. • Asthma Nebulizer (known as the breathing machine) • Used for infants and small children.
Causes of Asthma • The exact cause is unknown. • Genetic and Environmental Factors • Inherited tendency to develop allergies • Parents with asthma • Respiratory infection (Mucous in lung, etc…) • Contact or exposure to some viral infections in early childhood.
Prevention • There are no prevention known at this point, BUT it can be controlled. • Use MEDICINES prescribed from your doctor • Avoid situations and things that makes your asthma worse • Get regular checkups for your asthma
