  2. What am I looking for? • Does the culture celebrate on one or many days? It takes place several days. • Is it a large party or a solemn gathering? There can be 100 to 10,000 people attending which is not small. • Is there a dowry involved? The groom gives the bride a necklace to signify her married status • What kinds of traditional outfits do people wear? Indian brides: pink and red saris on their wedding day, also as much jewelry as possible, and henna staining on hands • Indian grooms: a turban with a veil of flowers streaming down in front of his face to protect him from evil spirts

  3. What about food? • Is there a sumptuous feast or small foods that represent something? There is a sumptuous food. The arrangement is done by the parents of the bride. The main course meal is the heaviest and grandest of all and showcases the best delicates of any cuisine. After are the deserts which are usually sweet. • Do the bride and the groom exchange foods at the ceremony? Sweets are traded (including a coconut. Some pooja items such as rice and turmeric are too. They symbolize respectively, a sweet life, fertility and prosperity.

  4. Where do the ceremonies take place? • The ceremony is usually outside. • What is the weather like in the region/country? It is very warm. Also rainy sometimes but not always. It is mostly arid and dry. • Do you think that has any bearing on why the tradition is the way it is?

  5. Is there traditional music or dance? • Some have classical Indian singers. Or just a regular singer. There are Indian folk dances. It differs for the different regions of India. There are also classical dances and dancers. Here is one example: • South West India: DolluKunitha is a popular drum dance. In the dance, large drums are adorned with colored clothes and hang around the necks of men. The songs used usually have religious and battle fervor. The main emphasis is on quick and light movement of the feet and legs.
