  1. Feng Shui Chinese feng shui is the ancient method of creating a harmonious environment.  The idea is to design a room, house, building or yard to promote a good feeling or qi (pronounced chee).  This is popular in many of the home renovation shows seen on television.  Since students are generally familiar with these shows, they are interested in how Asian culture is influencing their world.  Feng shui generally includes Asian plants, such as rice and bamboo.  Bamboo is one of the most popular Asian plants.  It grows in water, lasts for years and does not require much light.  It symbolizes good luck and is used in feng shui to help create the peaceful, harmonious environment.
