  3. Background to SFDSA • SFDSA is a deliverable in the Industry strategy developed by Scotland Food & Drink • Skills seen as vital to drive an agenda of growth (£2.5bn industry growth target) • Insufficient ambition from businesses to undertake training • Academy developed in response

  4. Focus of SFDSA • Aim to be the interface between food businesses and training providers – a one stop shop for Food & Drink Skills Development within Manufacturing, Production and Processing. • Run as a project by Abertay University • Funded by SDS, SE, and SFC

  5. Supported around 200 businesses directly : Workplace Skills Assessments, IIP and Training needs analysis Referrals to providers of training opportunities – compliance, private training courses, MA’s SVQ, etc Funding – Rapid Response fund/SDS & Women in Work funding via Improve Developed protocols and ways of working with key agencies Activities to Date

Proposals with Scottish Government for a three year extension and expansion post March 2013 Formally extend the links with the NSA and Improve Focus on building training provider capability to better meet industry need for growth : innovation, productivity, sales and marketing , sustainability Increase engagement with businesses both individually and on the basis of regional forums Aim to get 1000 businesses training To embed skills within the organisation and reduce reliance on one off projects and interventions Opportunities for training providers to gain major benefits – business referrals, access to funding and cpd Conference dates coming soon to provide more details Academy Future Focus
