  3. Six Areas of Agreement • Preparing and submitting communication, reports & correspondence • Developing, implementing, and maintaining an effective means of research program review • Liaison & coordination with CO, VISN, Medical Centers

  5. What your AO Does • Works with investigators, other department heads, affiliates, service organizations, and granting agencies to insure that everything from grant application to final report gets completed with as little pain to the investigator as possible

  6. What Your AO Does • Assists in the recruitment of scientific and clinical staff • Works with new clinical and scientific staff to encourage merit review applications • Oversees the submission of just-in-time documentation • Responds to data calls

  7. What your AO Does • Assists PIs and coordinators in understanding R&D’s shared research priorities • Responds to data calls

  8. What your AO Does • Liaison with IRB, Safety Subcommittee, IACUC, and other committees under the purview of the R&D Committee • Responsible for Merit Review submissions • Disseminates information on research funding opportunities to investigators • Responds to data calls

  9. What your AO Does • Educates potential investigators on research requirements • Oversees and coordinates investigations into issues of vulnerability • Responds to data calls

  10. What your AO Does • Supervises all travel of staff and investigators • Supervises personnel actions, including recruitment, hiring, disciplinary actions, retention, and terminations • Supervises and develops policy, procedures, and is an integral part of strategic planning for the service.

  11. What your AO Does • Coordinates, plans and oversees office support • Coordinates interaction between the divisions of Research, BLRD, CSRD, HSRD and RR&D • Coordinates space utilization • Supervises of personnel • Conducts Administrative Reviews of Research

  12. What Your AO Does • Mentors staff • Counsels staff on Career Development • Recommends training to prepare staff for advancement • Plans for succession • Plans organizational development • Responds to data calls

  13. What your AO Does • Serves on Medical Center Committees • Serves on VISN Committees • Assists when requested in VACO initiatives • Responds to data calls

  14. What your AO Does • Oversees preparation for oversight visits • AHRPP • AAALAC • ORO • ITOC • EPA • IG • GAO

  15. In a Perfect World • The AO would do all of that, except: • Responds to data calls
