Global warming poses a serious threat to our planet, driven primarily by greenhouse gases that trap heat in the atmosphere. The sun's thermal energy is absorbed by the Earth, but increased greenhouse gases cause more infrared radiation to be reflected back to the surface, raising temperatures. This leads to severe consequences like rising sea levels from melting glaciers, affecting millions in coastal areas. Furthermore, droughts can cause mass migrations, leaving behind abandoned towns. Tackling pollution and reducing greenhouse gas emissions is essential to combatting this pressing issue.

Greenhouse Effect • The sun radiates thermal energy that the Earth absorbs (sun’s rays). • The Earth reemits the energy back as infrared radiation (escaping heat). • Some of the radiation is reflected by greenhouse gases in the atmosphere back down to Earth (trapped heat).
More greenhouse gases increase Earth temperatures!
FLOODING • Glacial melting (i.e. Greenland) increases sea levels. • Scientist foresee a 1m increase in sea levels would threaten 72 million citizens in coastal China alone. • The collapse of the W. Antarctic Ice Sheet would potentially increase sea levels by 6m, affecting over 400 million people worldwide.
Drought • Droughts in Midwest during the 80s and 90s caused mass migration. • Tens of thousands moved, leaving behind ghost towns.
Preventing Pollution is a Solution! • Global Warming is a REAL problem affecting the world NOW! • It has already diminished the population of Central American Harlequin Frogs and Polar Bears!
