Mir Impact (Russia) • Vehicles: Mir Space Station and Progress tanker • Launched: April 6, 1997 • Incident occurred: June 25, 1997 (during redocking experiment) • Mission: Provide supplies to a long- duration space station • Problem: On approaching the Mir Space Station, the Progress tanker impacted Mir, causing an air leak and damage to the Spektr module and solar array wing.
Mir Impact (Russia) Results • Spektr module was isolated to prevent further air leakage. • Leak was isolated and repaired. • Commander was accused of poor judgement and fined for imprecise docking. • Commander was physically exhausted and overworked before the incident.
