  4. The future seen from now • Will + infinitive • My sister will get married to Drew in July 2013.

  5. The future seen from the past • Would + infinitive • Stephanie would go on to marry Drew in July of 2013.

  6. The future seen from now • Is/are supposed to + infinitive • They are supposed to raise his salary this year.

Why do we use future in the past? • For when we are reporting events: • She was to marry on July 7th, but the priest was ill, so they had to reschedule. • He was supposed to take her to the ball, but instead he went out with his friends, leaving her all alone. • They would take the next train to Boston on Friday, April 7th 2011.
