  9. Materials Needed for the box • 1- 2’x 3’Sheet Ply wood Board • Nails • Staples • Net Pots • 1- 2’x 3’ Styrofoam Board • 2 pieces of 3’of 2”x 4” wood • 2 pieces of 2’ of 2”x 4” wood • 1- 3’ x 4’ black plastic liner Kealakehe Chapter

  10. Equipment Needed • Hammer • Hand Saw or Skill Saw • Tape Measure • Utility Knife • Staple Gun Kealakehe Chapter

  11. Building the Box • Measure and Cut Sheet plywood to fit Styrofoam Board • Next, measure and cut the 2”x 4” wood Kealakehe Chapter

  12. Building the Box • Attach the 2 X 4 box frame to the • 2’ x 3’ plywood • Measure the black plastic liner and drape the inside of the 2’x 3’ box, fasten liner using staple gun Kealakehe Chapter

  13. Box Cover • Place Styrofoam on top of the 2’x 3’ box • Use a utility knife to cut holes the size of the net pot and making sure that they are 5 inches apart (a total of 12 holes) evenly spaced Kealakehe Chapter

  14. Box Cover • Place net pot in hole to make sure that it fits snuggly • Note: you don’t want to cut the hole too big so sunlight will not enter the box. Kealakehe Chapter

  15. Germinating Seedlings •  Place seeds in Oasis Growing media •  Place the Oasis Block in a Tupperware container or planting flat and water oasis so it is saturated. Kealakehe Chapter

  16. Germinating Seedlings • Seeds will emerge usually in 10 – 21 days • Seeds then can be transplanted into the net pot and placed in non-circulating hydroponic box Kealakehe Chapter

  17. Nutrient Setup • Fill hydroponics box half-way with water • Place equal proportions of fertilizer solution from stock tanks. • Adjust fertilizer level • Adjust pH level as needed Kealakehe Chapter

  18. Maintenance of Plants Check your fertilizer and pH levels at least every other day to maintain proper growing environments for your plant. Kealakehe Chapter

  19. Harvesting of Plants • Lettuce will mature around from 45-80 days and will be ready for harvest. Kealakehe Chapter
