  2. What is BRIC? • In economics, BRIC (typically rendered as "the BRICs" or "the BRIC countries") is an acronym that refers to the fast-growing developing economies of Brazil, Russia, India, and China.

  3. Investopedia explains Brazil, Russia, India And China - BRIC The BRIC thesis posits that China and India will become the world's dominant suppliers of manufactured goods and services, respectively, while Brazil and Russia will become similarly dominant as suppliers of raw materials. It's important to note that the Goldman Sachs thesis isn't that these countries are a political alliance (like the European Union) or a formal trading association - but they have the potential to form a powerful economic bloc. BRIC is now also used as a more generic marketing term to refer to these four emerging economies.  Due to lower labor and production costs, many companies also cite BRIC as a source of foreign expansion opportunity. From: http://www.investopedia.com/terms/b/bric.asp

  4. Taiwan banks pleased about signing of MOU with China (2009/11/18) Many legislators weren’t happy about the hasty signing of a financial supervisory memorandum of understanding between Taiwan and China, but Taiwanese bankers were all smiles on Wednesday. Seven Taiwan-based banks have been waiting for the signing to be completed so that they can open up full-service branches in China. According to the financial supervisory memorandum of understanding that will come into effect on Jan. 15, Taiwan-based banks that have had liaison offices in China for more than two years will be permitted to establish full-service branches. Currently, seven banks are ready to move.Liu Teng-chengTaiwan Cooperative BankThe MOU is very good, said Taiwan Cooperative Bank Chairman Liu Teng-cheng. We can set up branches in China. We already have everything prepared. Financial Supervisory Commission Chairman Sean Chen responded to concerns from financial experts that the larger Chinese banks could begin squeezing out smaller Taiwanese banks. He said that in the past the amount of credit that foreign banks could extend was calculated using the net equity of the banks’ headquarters. But for Chinese banks the FSC will use the net equity of branches as the benchmark.

  7. Growth in Chinese manufacturingSunday, 1 November 2009 CHINA'S MANUFACTURING SECTOR GREW IN OCTOBER AT ITS FASTEST RATE IN 18 MONTHS, A SURVEY HAS SUGGESTED. The purchasing managers index (PMI) from the state-sanctioned China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing rose to 55.2 from 54.3 in September. The survey is a further sign of the strength of the recovery in the Chinese economy, which grew at an annual rate of 8.9% between July and September. "These figures show that China's economic growth will accelerate in the future," said Zhang Liqun, an economist at the State Council Development Research Center. China's strong recovery has been aided by government stimulus packages, similar to those put in place by other major world economies. "China's recovery has been impressive, but has been heavily reliant on government-directed investment," said Brian Jackson at the Royal Bank of Canada in Hong Kong. But economists believe that even without state aid, China's economy will now enjoy robust growth. "External demand will provide an additional source of support for growth in the months ahead," said Mr Jackson, before adding that the government may begin scaling back its support "from early 2010". Germany, France and Japan all returned to growth between April and June. From:http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/8336695.stm
