In order to apply autonomic management algorithms on a network, the management system and the network itself must poses a number of capabilities: • Input in the shape of accurate network status; • A translation from management objectives to actions; • Enforcement of those actions on the network, and; • A feedback from the network. • To fulfill requirements i and ii, we came up with the 4-layer, 3-colums model. • To achieve iii and iv, and to support the model in task i, we composed a specialized protocol over the Elvin middleware.
