  1. PRAYERS OF REPENTANCE BY PASTOR KWESI OGINGA

  2. WHAT IS REPENTANCE It is to recognize the wrong we have done, and to be truly sorry about it. PRAYER OF REPENTANCE

  3. Nations have suffered because of a lack of repentance • When the children of Israel were persisting in their sinful ways, God sent several prophets to warn them of the importance of their repentance and a change from their wicked ways. • Among those prophets were Isaiah, Ezekiel and Jeremiah

  4. ISAIAH:740 BC; was an intellectual, a literacy genius, and a poet Isaiah 30:15 This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy one of Israel, says: "In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.

  5. Isaiah’s message from God • Part of his message was: • "The land will be completely • laid waste and totally • plundered. • The LORD has spoken this word. • " (Isaiah 24:3). Isaiah therefore warns the people of Israel to turn back to YHWH.

  6. . Ezekiel: over 500 years BC he warned about the coming destruct and restoration of Jerusalem and Judah Ezekiel is called by God to be the watchman of Israel. In Ezekiel 3:17-21, God tells Ezekiel that his role is to take the words of God and use them to warn his people. Over 65 times in the Book of Ezekiel God tells him to remind the people that they should ‘Know that I am God!”

  7. THE PROPHET EZEKIEL’S MESSAGE • Ezekiel 18:30 • "Therefore, O house of Israel, I will judge you, each one according to his ways, declares the Sovereign LORD. Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall.

  8. JEREMIAH • THE PROPHET JEREMIAH • God appointed Jeremiah to • confront Judah and • Jerusalem for the worship • of idols and other • violations • Jeremiah 18:8 • and if that nation I warned • repents of its evil, then I will relent and not inflict on it the disaster I had planned.

  9. GOD ALWAYS SENDS SOMEONE OR SOMETHING TO REMIND US OF THE IMPORTANCE OF OUR REPENTANCE • WHY? • God loves us • He knows that our sins will destroy us • His plan is for us to be in eternity with Him not in the lake of fire with Satan

  10. Why God wants our repentance • God made us with a purpose. He had a vision of us before he made us. He knew how a life of sin would distract us and prevent us from realizing the full potentials in that vision he had of us. He wanted us, as individuals, to live a life of wisdom, power, love , joy and peace forever in His presence.

  11. WHY REPENT? • This is reflected in His call to Jeremiah: Jeremiah 1:4-5 (New International Version) • The Call of Jeremiah • 4 The word of the LORD came to me, saying,  5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew [a] you,        before you were born I set you apart;        I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."

  12. WHO SHOULD REPENT? • Romans 3: 23: • 23for all have sinned • and fall short of • the glory of God, • Ecclesiastes 7:20 • There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and never sins.

  13. PRAYER OF REPENTANCE • GOD WANTS OUR PERSONAL REPENTANCE • A prayer of repentance is a prayer imploring God’s mercy and forgiveness

  14. How does our repentance affect us • True Repentance brings change of Ways: to feel regret about a sin or past actions and change your ways or habits

  15. It is our obedience that God requires above everything • God looks at our heart. An unrepentant heart is a heart in rebellion against God • When we repent of our disobedience to Him God know that we have arrived at a place where we are willing to change
