  12. WBA Code of Conduct • Please review the Coaches Code of Conduct and ensure ALL of your coaches have read it and agree to these important rules. Go over this at your draft. • #2 on the “Coaches shall not” is Question a referee’s call. Please make sure this is crystal clear w/ your Coaches. This is especially critical w/ our Student Referees

  13. Grade Coordinator Responsibilities • Confirm you Head Coaches ASAP and submit the list to the WBA EC for confirmation. • Once you have your Head Coaches, pick a Draft time / location. This should take place prior to Thanksgiving • You will lead the Draft and collect all CORI Background Checks for Head Coaches and any identified Assistant Coach on your Draft Night. On 12/3 you will pick up and distribute the equipment to your coaches prior to 12/6.

  14. Grade Coordinator Responsibilities • Once the season starts you are the Lead for your grade. We need to be actively involved with our grade. What is working well and what needs to be fixed. Are there any concerns around the coaches not understanding the Code of Conduct, etc. • Once the season concludes, you will need to collect all of the leftover equipment and get it back to Peg Harvey. We did a poor job of this last year. Please set expectations with your coaches that they need to give you the equipment on the final day of the season. • Coordinator positions are expected to be from 1st grade through High School. Please try and stick with the grade and encourage your children to play in-town all the way through. Too many coordinators are dropping and leaving the grade in a tough spot.

  15. 1st Grade Skills Clinics • We will offer one 8 week sessions starting in January (last year we offered 2 sessions of 4 weeks each). • TMS New Gym from 8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. (2 45 minute sessions 8:00 – 8:45 and 8:45 – 9:30) • Cost will be $80 • Announcements will go out tomorrow and registration will be live over the weekend. • Mark Jessup and Darren Weeman will be the 1st Grade Coordinators responsible for the Clinics. Parent participation is needed.

  16. Referee Training Update • We held Referee Training on 11/2, 11/9, and 11/12. • Positive feedback from those who attended • Student Referees had to attend at least one training session to be considered for the upcoming season (exceptions are returning referees attending college and pre-approved absences) • Patched Officials will oversee all games in December to provide real time feedback on the Student Referees

  17. WBA - Safety • Mouth Guards • WBA strongly encourages all players to use mouth guards at practices and games. Coaches can mandate this on an individual team basis, but the WBA will not mandate mouth guards in order to play. • Metro West and MIAA also strongly encourage the use of mouth guards by all players.

  18. WBA - Safety • CORI Forms needed ASAP • www.westwoodbasketball.org • Forms must be completed prior to 1st games • All Head and Assistant coaches will need to complete a CORI background check • Do not leave any child unattended following games. • Be smart about coaching actions • Step in if a fellow coach is losing their cool with a player, parent, referee, or fan.

  19. Travel Updates • Steve St. Martin’s Coaches Clinic on 11/15 was AWESOME • Additional Coaches Clinics in December / January if possible • Norwood Jamboree this weekend • 7GB Plays at Halftime of the Celtics game on Sunday • Thanksgiving Tournaments for many teams • Metro West Season starts on 12/7
