MOM Report Linda R. Coney MICE Operations Manager University of California, Riverside MICO March 23, 2009
Commissioning Needs • Working Decay Solenoid – Stands.. • Ready for MLI installation • Repair/testing under intense time crunch - ?? Easter ?? • What are the risks involved in having non-experts babysit the cooldown over Easter weekend? • Worth bringing in PSI expert(s) • Walter Glor or other? • Quench Detector currently not working – need this operational in order to define DS as “working” • “working” means operating at 870 A for at least 24 hours without quench • Working target – Stands.. • one in R78 for demo • one in ISIS for data Commissioning Needs-Coney
Issues • Documentation inventory/overhaul • Instructions for shifters – things are in flux, old documentation needs updating • Safety – need all relevant documents in one obvious place • Detectors – • Need to investigate/design luminosity monitor • Who will build it? • Get Decay Solenoid magnet-on lights working • reposition light on top of turret; check light in ISIS vault • Computing • Still cannot print on OKI printer in R76 • Need Windows PC in MLCR • Need connection to GRID from MLCR Commissioning Needs-Coney
Issues • MICE Local Control Room • Is it required to sign in/out if in MLCR only? Sign-out not obvious – reposition? • Crowded and messy • more shelves on wall • Network connection cables & monitors are under control • Beautification/PR – should be obvious that there is an important experiment happening in Hall/MLCR • posters coming regarding who we are and what we are doing • UK Budget crunch having severe impact on available personnel Commissioning Needs-Coney
