  1. MOM Report Paul Soler MICE Operations Manager University of Glasgow MICO April 4, 2011

  2. Commissioning Needs • MICE shift 23/3/11 • Shift went well and most systems tested (see P. Hodgson’s report last week) • However, BPM was not able to be tested • Beam Position Monitor: • Contacted Pierrick Hanlet and Alan Bross to see what could have been the problem • Discovered that HV was badly configured after EPICS tests • There are two CAEN SY127 crates (one on top of large SY527 crate and one next to BPM) • These need to be “daisy chained” but were not • SY127 cable connected to SY527 cable (which is at CAEN for repair) • With instructions from Pierrick, connected one SY127 to the other and terminated connections properly (however need to test) Commissioning Needs-Soler

  3. Commissioning Needs • Henry removed MICE DAQ PCs from rack DAQ-04 • It includes: Grid data mover PC, "micestore", all miceacq* servers and DAQ KVM system. • PCs are currently in R76 • Old rack to be removed and new rack to be installed • Goal is to reinstall PCs around 14 April • Consequences: • No data taking until reinstalled • KVM box has been removed - machines that connect through it will need to use a local keyboard and monitor (miceraid1&2; micecss1; micepps1; targetctl1). • No backups of eLog, MICEmine, etc. (micestore removed) • Cannot test BPM again until system reinstalled Commissioning Needs-Soler

  4. Commissioning Needs • Beam Magnets: • Water leak in trench next to receiver fixed by John Govans • Q6 water remains off until access at the end of this ISIS period • Target in R78 • Ran successfully for 1147247 actuations • However, it kept on getting stuck • Ken stopped it on 1/4/11 at ~17:00. • Target will need to be dismantled for inspection to understand why it is sticking Commissioning Needs-Soler

  5. Commissioning Needs • Matt Hills is commissioning H2 system with cryostat • However, H2 line has developed leak: 0.73 mbar/hour • System shut down and leak to be fixed next week when Matt returns Commissioning Needs-Soler
