  3. MITHI WIDENING – An Appeal • Political Leaders Think and Act for Mumbai First. • Narrowness of vote bank keeping Mithi narrow. • No progress - Mithi widening since July 2006 • Airport South (Kalpana Talkies / Kurla Kalina Road) • CST/BKC Zone • Kapadia Nagar area • Parigh Khadi area.

  4. MITHI WIDENED… • Sanjay Gandhi Rashtriya Udyan till Airport • BKC to Mahim Creek Bridge. • Water bottleneck feared between • Airport • Kalpana Talkies Junction to BKC.

  5. MITHI WIDENED… • The man-made water bottleneck to affect 7 sq. km area. • Shall affect • Airlines Colonies, • Kalpana Talkies Junction, • LBS Marg • Central Railway tracks near Kurla.

  6. MITHI WIDENING • 3 years are over to 26th July 2005. • Widening work held up at Airport-Kalpana Talkies, Kurla. • Widening done from 60 to 300 feet….. • Suggestions of Experts Committees implimented at various places.

  7. MITHI WIDENING • Good progress has been done • Mithi Janmasthan, • Vihar Lake • Sanjay Gandhi Rashtriya Udyan • Kranti Nagar side of Airport.

  8. MITHI FINANCING • No contribution from Central Govt. • No contribution from State Govt. • The project Implemented by BMC and MMRDA from their own funds.

  19. Political Compromise… • Congress-NCP “Understanding” • Mithi be 150 to 180 feet • Airport (south) to CST & BKC • Political Pressures • Chief Secretary, MMRDA & BMC Commissioner coming under pressure

  20. Effects of the Compromise • River will overflow at above places • Water logging & River Blockade • The area near Kalpana Talkies will be flooded again • Decision to save the local existing structures • To protect ‘Bhangarwalas’… • Disastrous for Mumbaikars

  21. Effects of the decision… • Chitale & Experts Committees Report Thrown out • Rejuvenation work to be a waste. • Invitation to another “26 July”

  22. Suggestions • Width of river at the spot should be kept at 100 mtrs or so as recommended by Experts. • Transparent decision to save this area from disaster • Bureaucrats & Executives to perform their duty to protect Mumbai • We appeal to the politicians to have ‘Healthy’ approach
