  2. Protecting Civil Liberties Amendment 1 • Freedom of Religion • Freedom of Speech • Freedom of the Press • Freedom of Assembly • Freedom to Petition

Rights of the Accused 4th Amendment – No unreasonable searches and seizures 5th Amendment – No Double Jeopardy; Right to remain silent 6th Amendment – Must be told of charges; Trial by impartial jury; Speedy and held in public trial. 8th Amendment – No cruel and unusual punishment and no excessive bail

  4. Additional Protections 2nd Amendment – Legally allowed to own a gun. 3rd Amendment – No housing soldiers. 7th Amendment – Right to a jury in a civil case. 9th Amendment – Allowed to have more right NOT mentioned in the Constitution. 10th Amendment – Power of the federal government is limited. Power not mentioned in the Constitution goes to the states/local government or people

  5. Civil War Amendments 13th Amendment – Outlawed slavery. 14th Amendment – All citizens are equal under the law. 15th Amendment – No state may deny a person the right to vote based off of race.

  6. Electoral Process and Voting Rights 17th Amendment – Voters can elect senators 19th Amendment – Women can now vote. 23rd Amendment – Citizen in D.C. the right to vote. 24th Amendment – No poll taxes. 26th Amendment – Voting age is 18.

  7. Prohibition 18th Amendment – Alcohol is illegal 21st Amendment – Alcohol is legal

  8. The Others 11th Amendment – Limits on lawsuits against states. 12th Amendment – Revises how the president and vice-president are elected. 16th Amendment – Congress can levy an income tax.

  9. The Others 20th Amendment – Changes dates of congress. & president terms. 22nd Amendment – President can only serve two terms. 25th Amendment – Succession to the presidency. 27th Amendment – No Congress raises until the next term.
