The last thing a writer in this class should do before handing in a draft is READ IT OUT LOUD! The writer WILL catch awkward phrases and fix them. Your ear will catch what your eyes will not.
The following slides display sentences taken from Draft 1.2 that were awkward and in some cases mangled. Reading out loud would have caught them before I did.
