  2. Classroom Setting • In my 5th grade class at James Madison Elementary School, I have a total of 25 students. • Of my 25 students, I have 6 students with ELL, 2 students with ADHD, and 1 with minor auditory challenges. • Within the classroom, there is only 1 PC with 1 printer that are both 3 years old. http://www.valdosta.edu/~canwilliams/Cartoon-House-and-Children.gif

  3. Special Needs: ELL • English Language Learners (ELL)are students with limited English proficiency. • These students generally speak a language other than English at home. • ELL students are protected by the Civil Rights Act, which requires schools to improve language deficiencies of students so that they may fully participate in the education system. • Technology software programs with picture to text abilities can be effective in building an ELL students vocabulary. • Information found on: http://nces.ed.gov/pubs2010/2010015/indicator2_8.asp

  4. Special Needs: ADHD • Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a condition that can make it hard for a person to sit still, control behavior, and pay attention. • As many as 5 out of every 100 children in school may have ADHD. • Boys are three times more likely than girls to have AD/HD. • Interactive technology such as the SMARTboard and iPad can accommodate the needs of a student with ADHD. • Information found on: http://nichcy.org/disability/specific/adhd

  5. Proposed Technology • 1 SMART Board 660 interactive whiteboard • 64 in. Diagonal Work Surface • Expansion slot for future hardware upgrades such as a projector-control button • Accessories include an improved floor stand and new USB speakers • $1,599.00 • The SMART Board is a device that would beneficial to all of my students in the classroom. It is an interactive way to learn and assess the students in lesson. The SMART • Board will be a great way to keep the children with ADHD moving within the classroom in a positive way. There are many activities that can be performed on it that can also assist with the ELL students to learn English. Finally, the volume is adjustable for the student with minor auditory challenges. http://www.touchboards.com/smartboards/SmartSB660.asp

  6. Proposed Technology • WYNN Wizard is a reading and writing software that is very beneficial to those with auditory challenges, ELL, and ADHD. • This software program reads a scanned text out loud. Within this program, there are many features that can be adjusted to each students needs. For example, the pace in which the text is read can be altered, the color of the background and text, the volume and tone of the voice reading the document, etc. • A special feature that could really benefit an ELL student would be the option to have the definition and/or spelling of a word that they do not recognize read to them. • This software program is $995 each. http://www.freedomscientific.com/lsg/imgs/WYNN_product-sm2.jpg

  7. Proposed Technology • Lexmark X4650 Wireless All-in-One Printer, Scanner & Copier This Lexmark Wireless Printer is an all-in-one printer, scanner and copier. With Up to 4800 x 1200 color resolution, the Lexmark Wireless Printer offers high-quality photo printing. • $49.00 • This All-in-One printer can be useful with the program WYNN because it is compatible with any scanner. Also, the wireless feature gives the studentswith ADHD to print out their work from their iPads. 8. Proposed Technology http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/ • iPad • Dock Connector to USB Cable • 10W USB Power Adapter • Documentation • $499 each • I would purchase two of these iPads. These iPads would be for my students with ADHD. I would also use one as the teacher, because I can work the SMARTboardfrom my iPad with the following connector cable. • Apple’s VGA Adapter, $29.00. This adapter can be used with any computer projector or monitorthat has a VGA connector, the most common connector found on computer monitors or projectors. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC552

  9. Proposed Technology • Gateway - 3Netbook / Intel® Atom™ Processor / 10.1" Display / 1GB Memory / 250GB Hard Drive - River Blac • $229.99 each This netbook will be useful within the classroom because it will ne portable, giving it a wider range of use within the classroom. This can come in use when ELL students wish to record their responses. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Gateway+-+Netbook+/+Intel%26%23174%3B+Atom%26%23153%3 B+Processor+/+10.1%22+Display+/+1GB+Memory+/+250GB+Hard+Drive+-+River+Black/2738738 .p?id=1218348122102&skuId=2738738

  10. FREE Technology http://manual.audacityteam.org/m/images/e/e1/Audacity-logo-r-full-whitebg.jpg Audacity is a free, open source software for recording and editing sounds. This can be useful for ELL students. Sometimes it is difficult for students to write their responses but this does not necessarily mean they do not know the answer. This program will allow to record any answers/responses they have. http://www.sonicspot.com/audacity/audacity.gif

  12. Conclusion If I was given $5,000 to spend on anything I wanted in the mall, I would spend every single penny that I could. Therefore, if I was given $5,000 to enhance the learning environment in my classroom for not only my student with special needs but my entire classroom, I would spend every penny I could. At the end of my proposal, I have $195.01 left over. I would use this extra money to purchase educational apps for the iPads. One particular app I would purchase would be the “Behavior Tracker App” which would be a great tool to keep track of my students with ADHD’s frequency of particular behaviors. Overall, the technology that I selected for my classroom can be used in many ways to create interactive lessons that will benefit the multiple learning abilities. Thank You!
