  1. The God of the Valley 1 Kings 16-21

  2. “Now Ahab the son of Omri became king over Israel in the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, and Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty-two years. Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD more than all who were before him.

  3. It came about, as though it had been a trivial thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he married Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and went to serve Baal and worshiped him.” (1 Kings 16:29–31, NASB95)

  4. The God of the Valley • Ahab Rejects Yahweh in Favor of Baal • Ahab described as the wickedest King yet.

  5. “He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters; He makes the clouds His chariot; He walks upon the wings of the wind; He makes the winds His messengers, Flaming fire His ministers.” (Psalm 104:3–4, NASB95)

  6. The God of the Valley • Ahab Rejects Yahweh in Favor of Baal • Ahab described as the wickedest King yet. • Baal is worshiped for his supposed ability to provide wealth. Materialism! • Enter Elijah! Principle 1: Rejecting God in favor of the “other” brings spiritual drought.

  7. The God of the Valley • Ahab Rejects Yahweh in Favor of Baal • Meeting God all Over Again • Trouble with the Arameans. • A prophet approaches.

  8. “Now behold, a prophet approached Ahab king of Israel and said, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Have you seen all this great multitude? Behold, I will deliver them into your hand today, and you shall know that I am the LORD.’ ”” (1 Kings 20:13, NASB95)

  9. “Now the servants of the king of Aram said to him, “Their gods are gods of the mountains, therefore they were stronger than we; but rather let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we will be stronger than they.” (1 Kings 20:23, NASB95)

  10. “At the turn of the year, Ben-hadad mustered the Arameans and went up to Aphek to fight against Israel. The sons of Israel were mustered and were provisioned and went to meet them; and the sons of Israel camped before them like two little flocks of goats, but the Arameans filled the country. Then a man of God came near and spoke to the king of Israel and said,

  11. “Thus says the LORD, ‘Because the Arameans have said, “The LORD is a god of the mountains, but He is not a god of the valleys,” therefore I will give all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am the LORD.’ ”” (1 Kings 20:26–28, NASB95)

  12. The God of the Valley • Ahab Rejects Yahweh in Favor of Baal • Meeting God all Over Again • Trouble with the Arameans. • A prophet approaches. • God delivers, but Ahab sins. Principle 2: There is no one like Yahweh!

  13. The God of the Valley • Ahab Rejects Yahweh in Favor of Baal • Meeting God all Over Again • Injustice at the Hand of the King • Thou shalt not covet! • Murder and confiscation of land.

  14. Principle 1: Rejecting God in favor of the “other” brings spiritual draught. Principle 2: There is no one like Yahweh! Principle 3: The only just King is God.
